or silver springs. 270 southbound through the rockville interchange and to the beltway, lanes are wide open. i hope it stays this way. back to you. >> thank you. 5:02 is the time. a police officer injured after police involved shooting in northwest. >> select one man in the hospital. we've learned a police officer suffered minor injuries as well. john gonzalez is on the scene at 13th street. >> as you can see behind us, police are still at the scene. this is an active investigation. police have been to this house in upper northwest d.c. in the past. they know the man involved in this domestic problem. we understand there's a restraining order against him but the man has made several attempts to see his estranged wife in the past and has always been gone by the time police arrived. this time it was different. police found the man armed inside the home. at some point there was a

scuffle between two police officers and the suspect. >> in the course of checking back home, there appeared to be some sort of disturbance to the entryway of the home as the officers tried to determine if someone had made in unlawful entry they confronted the suspect theywho was armed. at this point, it looked like he was armed with a knife. >> two police officers involved. one of them a 10-year veteran. police saying this morning that one of the officers was injured. they're not specifically saying if the officer was stabbed, but they are saying he did sustain injuries. the woman involved in this was not physically harmed. this shooting is under investigation. reporting live in northwest washington, john gonzalez, abc 7 news. >> fallen a developing story from the south pacific. we have learned that at least five people are dead after a powerful earthquake struck the

garrett county schools on a two hour delay. that's the first and only one we have so far. checking our other top stories d.c. police am getting a shooting involving one of their officers. this happened overnight at a home on 13th street nw. an officer was assaulted before shooting unarmed man who was violating a restraining order. the officer as minor injuries and the suspect is hospitalized in stable condition. at least five people dead after a magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck the solomon islands in the south pacific. it produced two tsunamis that damaged dozens of buildings on the remote island. the boy scouts of america's executive board could vote today on whether to change its longstanding policy excluding gay scouts and leaders. the board could ease the ban by allowing troops sponsors to decide whether gay should be allowed. critics say that does not go far enough.

talk about the weather today. kind of a mixed bag in our future. >> we have a lot of interesting things coming up. today is steady and boring, typical february weather. we will take that. in the 40's with sunshine nothing to complain about. but we are tracking the potential for coastal system on friday. it looks like a much bigger impact storms for new england however. of 35 degrees is where we are starting this morning. the wind has picked up a little out of the south southwest at 3 miles an hour. wind chill factor at 32 degrees. the south southwest wind will help our temperatures into the 40's this afternoon. 32 at dulles right now, 30 in gaithersburg, 32 in frederick 32 in hagerstown. 31 in quantico, 34 degrees in culpeper at this hour. we made it to 42 yesterday, just shy of the average.
